I would expect the same optical design in different shutters.

In my experience, use of the "Press" description indicates a shutter that re-cocks itself automatically.

That is not true of the regular Hasselblad lens since cocking of the shutter is one function of cocking the body.

Leigh, I think the OP had a Linhof Press 70 camera in mind, not a press shutter.

So the question is : Are the optical prescriptions of the Linhof Press Zeiss Planar 100 lens and the Hasselblad Zeiss Planar 100 lens the same? The answer sounds like yes.

I have the Linhof Planar 100mm f/2.8, but not the Hasselblad Planar f/3.5. Aside from the different aperture, they both use a similar optical arrangement of 5 elements in 4 groups.

They are not the same calculation though, the Linhof Planar is much larger than the Hasselblad.

A lens design is identified by the name (Planar, Biogan, Tessar, etc) and the aperture.

The focal length is changed simply by scaling all the dimensions appropriately.

So a 100mm f/4 Junkagon is exactly the same design as a 50mm f/4 Junkagon or a 200mm f/4 Junkagon, just with different sized parts.

An f/2.8 Planar is NOT the same as an f/4 Planar, unless the smaller aperture is strictly a limit imposed by the shutter, which is possible.

Thank you for all your thoughts so far. "Press" in this case refers to the camera model (not a folding design) not the shutter type.
My guess is that they are different because the Linhof Planar is made to cover 6x9cm and has a wider max aperture of f2.8.
