I just bought a Linhof Kardan E 4 x 5. It is a very well made and rigid camera,
and weighs in at 8.86 lbs.
Looking at the newest Linhof Kardan model the RE, it looks like the focus knobs were changed the focus gear track was changed to metal. There were probably some other incremental upgrades to an already excellent camera.
When did Linhof phase out the E and introduce the RE model?
The focus gearing on the rail on all versions from the Super Color JBL to the re are all a nylon. Since the gear wheel on the standards are brass this make these self lubricating.
All movements from the JBL to the re are identical, same min and max extension, same tilts and swings, same rise fall, etc. the rail shape changed and some scales were added and some knobs changed.
