I am interested in creating a look I have seen used when framing paintings. Basically it looks like a 3/4 inch thick, beveled mat covered in linen fabric. Does anyone have tips on wrapping mats in linen? What would be a good base to use that is that thick? Of course I want this as archival as possible, are there concerns about using fabric in this manner?

Properly prepared linen has been a favored foundation for painters over several hundred years. Archival mats and adhesives should work well for your mats today. It might be difficult to neatly wrap the linen around thick mat board in the corners of the windows. The linen used in frames for paintings is often formed in long lengths and miter cut to form the corners.
