Lightroom 3 imports won't stick!

What gives? I have two folders of images that will not stay put after import. I keep having to re-import them, Then I work on the files for awhile and save and backup the catalogue, but next time I open Lightroom they are gone again and I have to syncronise the folder again and reimport them in place so I can work on them somemore. This has happened about ten times with the same two folders and files over and over again. Did I acidentally change some setting? I have a hundred folders that work just fine. Any thoughts?

I'd also like to know if this is a limitation or bug in the software. I plan on using it to prep and archive 1000s of images across multiple libraries.

Weird, at some point it picked up my external backup drive and that backup copy of my LR catalog as my main catalog. So I have been working off of and saving to the backup on these two folders-which never showed up therefore on my actual main drive when I went to check it. I don't know how this happened or if that makes any sense.

Glad it isn't the program. We are in the midst of scanning family images going back 3 generations and my own images and have tentatively picked LR to do the processing and management. I didn't want to discover half way in that we had maxed out the application.

No the program is great-there is a learning curve as LR conceptually is a bit different than your normal way of organizing and working on images. But once you get the hang of it-it works great. If you are brand new to it you might want to get the LuLa LR3 video tutorials.

I've played with it and like it a lot. For processing and organizing shooting sessions I found that it rocked. I just never used it to the degree you are and others have. I was also looking into Aperture as I can get it for the mac at a great price, but I've yet to hear from anyone who has used it.

I used an earlier version of Aperture before I went with LR. It didn't seem in the same league.

I remember LR losing track of stuff in external drives, that's from deep in my memory and was for an older version of LR.

At that point I actually started using iView Media Pro, which was then sold to Microsoft and renamed Expression Media, now seems seems to have ended up at PhaseOne Digital Asset Management - DAM - software

The iView product had solved the external drive issue and when using their editor the external drives didn't even need to be attached to edit, albiet this was a low-res edit of the raw settings.

The other thing that was really important to me about the iView product was that it would render raw "as shot". Camera settings actually mean something there, with LR, not so much.

iView's editor was nowhere near as strong as Adobe's but the "DAM" was a lot better.

Not suggesting one over the other, just reminiscing I guess.

What I would suggest though is NAPP. Learn Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom and Digital Photography | NAPP

I was a member for 4 years and they really can answer your question.

A subscription is worth every penny of that $100.

Aperture is generally regarded as being a second class app compared to LR 3.

I've got 3 close friends who are Mac addict fanbois and all 3 dropped using Aperture 3 for LR 3.

I have been using Lightroom 2 for looking at work also to prepare for presentations, or make low rez roll scan jobs look consistant and good.
I have always found when I move files from one drive to another I loose the info on lightroom or better yet they will show with a ? beside the name but not load.

Since the bulk of my work is in PS I have never given it much thought/worry and have made work around solutions for this problem.

We do have a job looming where I need to catalogue over 10,000 images but that is in the future and not an immediate thing for me to figure out.

When you get it figured out Kirk , I will get you to show me how to do it properly

I love light room but for specific purposes, I never see going whole hog, unless they adapt more methods of channel blending , separating channels and such.

Why? LR 3.3 totally out classes LR 2.7.

LR 3.3 does need more processing power. On my multi-core PC it runs really fast. On my single core AMD 4000 box not so much.

yes it is . when Library has a huge amount of Gigs , - LR 3.3 runs very slow .
