lighting in darkroom

Hallo

Anybody have experience with the agfa darkroomlight spectrallamp ? Is it possible to leave such a lamp on expecting the filmroll while developing it ? Of course with using of stopbad? And just for a while ....

I'd recommend development by inspection only for the advanced darkroom worker.

not sure what that lamp is, but I agree, developing by inspection is dicey, at best -- I've read about it being done only with a deeply dark dark dark green light and only, then, for very brief looks. It would only be usable in dire circumstances -- developing mystery film, perhaps. And how do you tell if it is properly developed before it has been cleared by fixer?

Really, too much bother. A little experimentation, a decent timer, you avoid the trouble.

Development by inspection is a technique best learned while young with very good eyesight. I have been using it since I was 10 years old, and 75 years later still do so. When developing panchromatic film of any speed no light can be left on continuously. Rather the light is turned on for a very few seconds no more than 2 or 3 times late in the cycle.

You can also use night vision goggles. I've been experimenting with an ATN viper and getting good results. They use infrared light and seem safe for most films, but not the IR stuff.
