Light Metering with Leica R6.2

I was hoping someone who also owns an R6.2 could help me figure out to meter with it. There's two kinds of metering for it which I believe are center weighted and spot metering. Whenever I got outside I always get the wrong reading, and I'm not sure if it's because I'm doing something wrong or the meter doesn't work. What should I make sure to do when using the built in meter?

Never used a R6.2 - only R3, R4 and R4s …

I think it's useful to have a look on the manual - page 10 up to page 17 is about metering with the R6.2.
