Following on from Rafal's offer/suggestion:

Would anyone be interested in a LF meet up?

Sounds good. Let's figure out how many people are interested, as that would help select the venue between someone's home or a public place. I would be happy to invite a small gathering to my place, near Bray, especially if processing was needed. With some luck, we might be able to use the darkroom at DCC, but I expect we would need to join the club. As for dates, I have time in December and in the first week of Jan, but rather busy after that until end of March.

Do you know what your main interests are at this stage, taking or processing or both?

Many thanks for kicking this off Rafal.

Personally, I am more interested in the "taking" end of things. Camera movements and suchlike are new to me. Also any tips tricks, does and don't.

I've been tray processing so far with good success, I'm finding the camera end tougher!

Having said all that, I'll fall in with whatever everyone wants.

Sounds like we need to think of a venue and and the date. Outdoors might be a bit of a risk, but would be good to show the basic movements useful for landscape. Indoors would be better to demo pretty much the full range of movements. Either is fine to work through the LF taking process.

I might have a couple of old Polaroids, somewhere... Not sure what state they are in.

If you fancy trekking near Bray, I'd be happy to have you visit my place.

We can certainly use my place, and there are a few locations nearby we can go if the weather is good (!). I'm outside Naas, quite close to Mondello park.

Would that be a suitable location?

Happy to head towards Bray too - whatever suits Rafal and everyone else.

I'd say it depends on whether we do indoors or outdoors. If it is outdoors, your location sounds like more fun. If it is indoors, then it might be useful to be close to different bits of gear, that, otherwise, I wouldn't carry with me.

When learning about movements, a cool, and not an easy exercise, is to try focusing a larger, cube-like object, even a table, with a view camera, while straightening the perspective. It takes a good while if you have not done this before, and it is more comfortable indoors. Most of the movements learned in this exercise, however, would not be needed in a landscape context often, or at all.

So, the question to you, is if you would prefer to focus on the operation of a view camera and its movements, or less so on that, and perhaps more on its practical use in a landscape setting. Let's not even think about the weather.

Ok. Something that may swing it for others is that I don't have a darkroom at home.

Whatever suits everyone is aok by me....

Either will do for me, Naas is close by and Bray is a motorway drive so simple enough too. I'd love to get to grips with the movements, that'd kick start things for me.

Ok, my husband says I can have a small crowd at our place, as long as he does not have to listen to me talk about photography. So you are invited to mine, which is next to Bray. I will email you directions and GPS coordinates, please PM me your email addresses.

What about the date? Do you have a preference for a Saturday, Sunday, or anything else? Before, or after Xmas? I'd suggest we plan a full day. We can go grab lunch at Avoca Handweavers, Enniskerry, or in Bray, especially if we decided to get out and photograph outdoors, too.

I am looking forward to it.

That's great news Rafal.

I know I have a "free" day on the 9th of December. However, I can fit in with whatever suits you and anyone else - after all, none of this would be happening without you! So, suit yourself first!

Hi all,

- I was really busy in the last week, and spent most of my free time on the last minute things I needed to sort for my exhibition, so I did not pick up on this thread. I apologise for joining it a bit late.

I would be interested in participating if I am not too late and the 9th would suit me. I can bring some items that might be of interest. I see that the arrangements are practically in place, but if you are still interested, I could try to arrange the DCC.

Regards,

Gerry

Hi Gerry,

You are very welcome to join us, and there is still space at mine. Thanks for offering to arrange DCC, perhaps the next time it will be better, indeed, but since we don't know how long we need, and we might want to use the darkroom, it is probably easier to do it at mine, as I will have stuff ready and waiting.

And I'm hoping to tire you guys out, or let you tire me!

It looks like there will be 4 of us, myself included, as Brendan has to work this Saturday. Let me know your email address by PM, and I'll email you my address and directions etc.

PS. I'm hoping to see your exhibition on Thursday. Hope it went well so far.
