Allowing Ads
I was hired as the gaffer for a lexus ad in August working with photographer Thomas Strogalski here in LA. I hadn't done any car stuff with stills up until this point and i though i'd share it with anyone who cares now that the ads and billboards are out.
He used a sinar 4x5 and Schneider lenses. 90mm and 110mm only. He carried a linhof technica on the scout day. This guy shoots cars and makes a living from it.
Kodak 100GX film and fuji instant film for tests. We went through well over 200 sheets of the 100GXfor the two setups.
The camera was mounted on an R2 carbon fiber and glass arm. Exposures ranged anywhere from 4-180 seconds timed by his cell phone. We lit it mostly with 8' 5600k Kino Flos and 8' shop flourescents with daylight tubes. The background was lit with 8 4kw HMI pars on the street setup. He was nice enough to burn through several sheets for shots of the lighting and grip crew at the end of the 2 day shoot.
