A straight scan is a meaningless term.

I think it's a meaningful term. I immediately understood what Andrew meant.

I'm not "bashing" Ilford.

Could've fooled me.

What is the concern is the way that the product is being marketed as the only "valid" way to make a redscale image.

That's awful. Please do share a link to Harman's marketing where they do this.

In my original post I described a simple way to create a redscale image from any conventional scanned film.

Your simple way does not reproduce the redscale look. As I keep repeating, redscale doesn't simply delete blue. That's not what it does.

We do casual users a disservice if we don't tell them there's other ways to get this effect that work just as well,

But your way does not get the redscale effect and it does not work just as well. I kind of get the feeling that you have not fully reflected on the explanations of how redscale achieves its look.

I do not see how a redscale app would be a win for anyone. That includes you, since you are evidently happy with the results you get with your process.

I think Harman's marketing has been a model of honesty. Specifically, I like the transparency they show on their front page:

But since you say that Harman's marketing has made the claim that their product is the only "valid" way (your quotes) to make a redscale image, I eagerly await your link so I can see it for myself.

Calm, cool discussion please.
And definitely no use of terms like "scam"!
