Hi alternative folks :D!

Last night after quite some time (kids and money playing main roll) the first four UV tubes came alive on my UV exposure unit. It was a huge relief since I'm not quite electrician, and I use one ballast for four tubes (you know wiring and stuff). Now I'm moving to vacuum printing frame that is also nearly finished. And when I'm done, you'll have another guy with bag full of stupid questions .

Marko, there are no stupid questions, only stupid answers. What type of process are you planning on working with for your prints?

As I noted in another recent thread, if you don't know it's ignorance. We can fix ignorance (in fact, this forum excels in fixing ignorance - really good people willing to share their knowledge). Stupid is an entirely different matter.... :D

The only stupidity in questions is not to ask.
What is a vacumn printing frame? It cleans your place while you print?
Just kidding...
My actual question is why would one want a UV exposure unit?

I like nobility, so I'll go for Pd/Pt , Zia in the first place.

And for UV, my father already asked, if now our family would have a sun bath at home :D.

Thank you for your willingness to answer questions. I'll have that on my mind (just remember, that you ask for it ).

I know I asked for it when I always comment on the humour around this place!
If someone could expand on donbga's comment "to expose UV sensitive material." (Unless of course it really is to get more vitamin D...)

actually some of the really slow coatings for alternative methods are sensitve to uv light. and that is the source of their exposure. Can we say solar technology?

Not the best person to answer this, but will try..Plt/Pld prints, Ziatypes, VanDykes, etc. Do a google search for alternative photography or visit some of the member sites here..another that might help is www.kerik.com, good web site and links to others.

Good luck..and if you have never seen a plt/pld print...find some place that has them - gallery/museum and have a look. They are wonderfull.

Hope this helps!
