To the participants in this forum, if you think there is enough interest for a set of dedicated subforums in your language please contact me..

It would involve supplying a list of required forums and someone to moderate them.

Thanks!
Sean

Here's a suggestion received by mail from a member who doesn't read or write English:
Film
Småbilde
Mellomformat
Storformat
Mørkerom
Kjemi
Link arkiv

I don't mind moderating us Scandinavians too, but it would be nice to have a little assistance from a Swede and a Dane - the languages are similar enough that confusion sometimes occurs when a word means something different to the reader than it does to the writer.

Though spelled and pronounced different in danish I can live with those headings. Can we add "lokasion(spl)/lokaliteter/steder", pick one??
Kind regards

In my opinion....ther is no reson to spilt scandinavia in 3 different subforums...or 5 or 7 (dk, no, sv, Ålandsøerne, Finland, Færøerne and and)
But one extra called Skandinavien-APUG-medlemmer....(bad name...pse find one better...) where APUG-SK members can write and exchange information ect....with referance to the main forum in English, German, Dutch, France.... oh yes we got a language problem her in Europe )

It would be nice if there were a way to show a unified listing of all the postings in the Scandinavian subforums (and the French and Dutch for that matter). Perhaps it is already possible in the other languages, but I can't find the correct button to click.

For the start at least, I think it will be counterproductive if readers have to hunt and peck for posts in a list of largely-inactive subforums.

I don't know if that was meant for me. I meant Location as in photolocations as in where are the best tripod holes to use when going to............
Kind regards

Sean and Ole.....

My suggestion is the following:
4 new subforums:

APUG-NO
APUG-SV
APUG-DK
APUG-SK (common for Scandinavia)

If there is response from Finland, it may come later.....

There aren't really enough of us (yet) to warrant splitting Scandinavia into individual countries - on the forum, that is. But if anyone from Finland wants to play too, we'll need an interpreter!

I aggree. The languege differences aren't that major, and even if one or two words mean something else in another Scandinavian languege, it's very, very unlikely to cause much confusion or offence.

As for a name... I don't really know? Polar APUG? (PAPUG?) Scandi-APUG? I kind of like the polar connotation.

I don´t think it will be a good idea to split it up that much. What would the advantages be?

I think it´s much better to stick to the original idea of a Scandinavian subforum, based on a (more or less) common language and geography.

Hm. I've got a thought. If we call it polar (or something) we don't exclude finns. Also, there are a lot of people in Greenland and some in Iceland that know how to read either Danish or Norwegian. Is Greenland considered part of Scandinavia? Finland and Iceland aren't. I'm not sure if it's such a good idea to exclude them.

Hmmm APUG Norden. Norden APUG. NAPUG. Northern APUG. Arctic APUG. APUG Arctic/APUGA.

Ole, I would love to help out moderating the Scandinavian forums, but I don't know the photography terminology in other languages than English since I didn't pick up photography seriously until I moved to the US seven years ago. I simply wouldn't be of much help.

How about the APUG Vikings  Perhaps only for the Norwegians and the Danes?
One language would do i think.

The Swedes went a-viking too, just in the opposite direction

I vote for a single, multilingual forum called simply the "Nordic Forum". If traffic grows to unmanageable size it can be split further thereafter.

OK the 4 subforums was a provokation )

I agree with Trond

erik

 And I was just about to ....... :D :D

But the subforums that Ole suggested plus locations as Søren said would be a nice start. And another one could be analoge photo supplies in Scandinavia, called photoshop (pun intended) if not covered by Ole's groups.

Hi - not a bad idea to create a local APUG forum (Scandinavia/Norden whatever) - but there certainly is a language barrier between us Finns and the Danish/Swedish/Norwegian people.

Besides that, we already have quite a lively and knowledgeable Finnish-speaking photo forum at http://www.kameralaukku.com although much of the discussion is about digital technology there.

Jukka: The languege barrier is definately part of the problem, and the scandinavian/nordic/whatever forum could address just that. For those of the community who have a hard time reading and writing English. I don't think any of the participants want to exclude anyone from the subforum, but I do feel strongly for using Scandinavian langueges in the posts there for the above reason. I've voiced inclusion of Finns and Icelanders, because Finland and Iceland have many people who speaks one of the Scandinavian langueges.

So... Two good reasons for a subforum.
1) Geographical concerns/advice/community building
2) Inclusion of users who aren't overly adept at reading and writing English, but have a fairly good grasp of Danish, Swedish or Norwegian.
