There is a thread going in the APUG/Ireland regional forum, to alert people that we were planning a Street Photography workshop with Les McLean. We have now finalised the details I felt it would be appropriate to post here in HybridPhoto as it has been agreed with Les that the workshop will have some digital content. Both film and digital users are very welcome.

Les McLean is coming to Ireland for a three-day workshop. Les will present his very popular "Street Photography Workshop", which will be centred round the St.Patrick's Festival in Dublin.

Les has said that Street Photography is probably one of his most popular workshops, he will take the participants on to the streets of a Dublin during the St.Patricks Day Festival to make photographs of people. The key to the success of Street Photography is the ability to communicate with people and to anticipate what they are going to do. The objects of the workshop are to help build the participants confidence in engaging strangers in conversations that pave the way to gaining the trust of the subject, and to demonstrate a number of methods Les uses in the making of candid photographs. In The Street Photography workshop either film based or digital cameras can be used.

In addition to the Street Photography workshop, we will also be visiting some great locations in Wicklow with Les to photograph Ireland in early spring. The days are sure not only to be very instructive but are bound to be full of fun and laughter.

Below is an outline of the workshop:

Sun 16th March:
Les will lead an outing to two shooting locations in Wicklow, (Enniskerry Village and Powerscourt Gardens). This will be followed by a talk by Les introducing Street Photography in preparation for the following days outing to Dublin and the St.Patricks Day Festival. It is hoped that the group can stay together in the evening to eat/drink and for an informal chat.

Mon 17th March:
The Street Photography workshop will start as we leave Bray with Les to travel to Dublin City Centre for the St.Patricks Day Festival. After shooting in Dublin we will return to Bray for an informal chat about our days photography, we may even have a drink to toast Irelands patron Saint!

Tues 18th March:
The day will start early with an outing to Glendalough to visit the ancient monastic site and lakes with Les. We will start early to avoid the crowds and to catch the early morning light. In the afternoon we will return to for Les digital imaging workshop where anyone who used a digital camera on the preceding days will have the opportunity to print one of the photographs with Les.

Les will also be providing information of preparing mattes, so everyone will be able to bring home a finished print. If anyone who is attending would like to bring some of the pictures in digital format, they are more than welcome to do so.

Places are limited so as to make this as personal as possible, early booking is advisable. While the workshop will run over 3 days, it is possible to attend for 1, 2 or all 3 days.

Costs: 360 for 3 days, 260 for any 2 days or 140 for a single day
Venue: We will be based in Bray, Co.Wicklow (just south of Dublin)

Should anyone attending require accommodation, this can be arranged.

Please PM/Email me with any questions or to book your place.

FAQ

Hi,

We have had a few PMs with questions in relation to the workshop and I thought it would be helpful to answer them here:

Q: Is it possible to attend for just one or two days rather than all three days?
A: Absolutely, the workshop is set up so that people can attend any number of days 1-3.

Q: If I shoot film during the workshop, can I still get a print from other work I have done.
A: Yes, if you bring along a photograph in digital format such as CD, Les will be happy to print it for you. So feel free to shoot film on the day(s).

Q: What time does the workshop start each day?
A: On Sunday 16th we will leave Bray at 10am, if you wish you can meet us in Enniskerry at around 10:30 if you wish to go there directly.
Monday 17th (St.Patrick's day) we will leave Bray at 8:30am to travel to Dublin city center, it is possible to meet us in Dublin if you wish.
Tuesday 18th we aim to be in Glendalough for 8am to avoid crowds but it is possible to meet us there later if you wish.

Q: Is there transport provided?
A: Yes. On Sunday & Tuesday we will travel to the shooting locations together by road. On Monday (St.Patrick's day) we will travel by rail (DART) to Dublin as there may well be Street Photography opportunities during the trip as people travel into Dublin for the Parade.

Hi all,

Just wanted to let you know that the places on the workshop are filling rapidly, if you are thinking of coming do book soon so as to avoid disappointment. It's shaping up to be a multi-national event with participants from Ireland, UK and USA on board now.
