Well, I grabbed my laptop, click on the blog and cleaned out my cats litter box while listening to this.

Seems like there is a bit of back-peddling, if you know what I mean.

But I must admit, I do agree with Brooks. Large format is king (and I am a medium format prince ).

...and a very worthwhile read. I ended up quite sympathetic to his decision to "go digital" given his time constraints and preference for more intimately sized prints. Had I known all that when he posted his barn burner, I'd have been disinclined to write anything about it at all other than happiness for his finding 'the best thing for him'...as he chose to reiterate in light of the controversy he precipitated. As I mentioned on the Lenswork site, just extolling your pleasure in what you've settled on to do is a far cry from first condemming what you used to do to the people who still do it happily, as a preface to describing your new path.

I was going to reply to this latest blog, but then thought why waste the energy. If someone loses their way that is their problem, I'm not going to waste my time worrying about it.

I don't think it's a matter of him losing his way as much as he realized afterwards that he made some sweaping grand generalizations that only applied to him, and they shouldn't be applied to MANY other photographers. Still, it's good to see his mind is very much open and able to look at things from other peoples point of view.

I didn't hear anything in the second blog that was inconsistent with what was said in the first one. They were about slightly different topics, which is perfectly fine. Some people here seem to think that either one should stay silent, or write a magnum opus that covers everthing related to a topic, which is ridiculous, and which their own posts clearly violate. Mr. Jensen has treated the people here very respectfully. It's a pity that some of us didn't return the favor.

I thought both Blogs were sensible and well presented. I don’t agree with all that Brooks has to say, but he usually puts over an interesting view and is worth listening to. There certainly wasn't a conflict between the two cited here, as far as I am concerned.
