Lenses for my Minolta

Hi, everyone!!
I would like folk's suggustions as to what zoom lens I could/should use. I currently own: 35mm MC Rokkor; 55mm MC Rokkor, and 200mm Accura. That 200mm is a HEAVY sucker!!
My camera is a Minolta SLR srt101 circa about 1970ish [maybe 1971!?] So far, it behaves beautifully. It had been an 'orphan' [Black Dog!]

There are zillions of MC and MD mount zooms out there. I would find a good condition Rokkor 28-85, but that's just me. You might want something longer, shorter, who knows? There's a lot of 70-210, or similar, too.

I like a 24 or 28. Anything in a Rokkor is good quality glass.

Vivitar, Series 1, 90-180mm f4.5 Flat Field Zoom. My XD11 would be naked without it.

I just picked up a 28mm Celtic, 135mm Celtic, 200mm Celtic prime, A Minolta Macro bellows and a 100-200 Rokkor MD Zoom on Ebay for $60 INCLUDING shipping for everything.

Oh and I also got a SRT 100 for with a 55mm prime for an additional $10 plus s&h...

I just missed by 15 minutes bidding on a 24-85 Rokkor for that sold for $15 (sob)!

Time is ripe for Minolta lens picking in MD or MC mount...

More original Series 1, all worth having:

28/1.9
90/2.5 Macro
135/2.3
200/3
35-85/2.8 Varifocal (not a zoom -- refocus with new f.l.)
'Solid Cat' mirror lens 600/8 and 800/11

I still have all but the 28/1.9, sold to a friend, and the 800/11 -- too long, too slow (I had one). And, of course, I still have the 90-180/4.5. The zoom and the varifocal both lack contrast after nearly 30 years.

Kiron 28mm f/2 is a charm; 100mm f/2.5 and/or 85mm f/1.7 for portraits. All great glass.

The zooms I like to carry(all Genuine Minolta) are the Rokkor 24-50, 35-70, and the 70-210. Other's I have but don't use as much, which are also great zooms are the 24-35, 28-85, 75-200. All of the zooms I mention are great lenses. But, you will still never beat a good prime lens.

I'll back the Kiron 28/2 too. Not used the others.

Didn't Kiron make some of the Series 1 lenses?

They made the first 70-210mm Series 1. Don't know about other Series 1 lenses, but they also manufactured some Nikon-branded stuff

What focal lengths are you looking for?

Hm, you lucky son-of-a-gun. I've been shooting with my XE7 (after a slew of other Minoltas) steady now, and I'd only with for that arsenal!

My zoom lens (which I've given up in favor of primes) was a Suntar "Sun" lens, 75-200 f/4. It was slow, but the sucker was nice in contrast and sharpness, considering it's age.

But unless you want to shoot in the dark, I'd really rather go for Rokkor zooms; at least with Rokkor, you can be sure to get the Minolta QC.

Any prime Rokkor lens is generally good glass. There are a couple Rokkor zoom lenses that aren't so good.

I am watching this thread as I picked up a Minolta XE-7 recently with a MC Rokkor 50 f1.4. I have a 28 Rokkor and a 135 Tele Rokkor on the way. I love this camera and I am resisting the urge to get an SRT 201. I don't need another body (famous last words).

The Vivitar Series 1 70-210 f/3.5 or the f/2.8-4.0. Dead Link Removed some info about them. The first three are all excellent lenses and they all have macro capabilities. They're sorta "cult classics," too. Great optics and undervalued.

I yoosta have a Minolta 75-150 f/4.0 which was pretty decent for a zoom, too, but not quite up to the Series 1. I'm sure there are others, and the prices on eBay are GREAT now. In fact, with the prices the way they are, it's hard to go wrong! I've seen the Series 1's go for $25! If you don't like it, flip it for a profit.
