I have a 90mm F8 super angulon that I use on my Linhof Tech III and cambo monorail. I have yet to find a suitable lenshade. My linhof compendium is too small(4x4 inside demensions) to extend far enough to get any protection and the last time I used my hand(ala Ansel) I developed the negative to find a really nice view of my thumb in the upper left corner.
what do you folks out there use?
The B+W collapsible rubber WA shade works perfectly with the 90/8.0 S-A.
Are you sure the Linhof compendium doesn't work? I have a Linhof Compendium as well, and I think I've used it with the 90. You can't extend it very far before it vignettes, because it is after all, a wide lens. This is just the nature of a wide lens.
I get out from behind the camera and move to the side. By holding the slide at the right angle and a good distance away, I can cast a shadow over the lens, and have no chance of getting my darkslide in the way. (The darkslide is in your hand anyway, why not use it?
Dark Slide. AA gives a helpful rule of thumb on page 72 of "The Camera" - if the image of the sun does not appear within the image area, the lens may be shielded by the slide, hat, or whatever by keeping the shield level (or above) the top edge of the negative and allowing its shadow to just cover the the area of the lens diaphragm.
i usually wear a hat, or use polaroids, readyloads or quick loads very often, so i just use my darkslide. hold it to the side or above to cast a shadow on the lens. quick and virtually free!
