I recently purchased a Nikon S3 year 2000 model with Nikkor-S 50mm f1.4 lens all in great condition.

I plan to get another couple of lenses, an 85mm and either a 35mm or 28mm. I'm looking for recommendations for good lenses and also which ones to avoid.

Thanks.

Did it come with the Year 2000 50 1.4? That lens is sweet. Much better than the old versions.
Anything that Voigtlander made for the Nikon S mount is great. I'd avoid original Contax mount lenses as while they will fit, the distance registry is off which can make a difference wide open and close.

Yes the lens is the year 2000 version. I knew about the Contax mount lenses but haven't looked into any Voigtlander yet, so thanks for that suggestion.

As far as the original Nikkor 35mm lenses go, the f1.8 version is definitely worth getting over the f3.5 or 2.5 versions. None of them are a bad bet per se though.

I had to delete my post, I thought it was about SLRs and I have zero idea about Nikon rangefinders.

I have a lot of lenses. The 10.5cm F2.5 - the S3-2000 has framelines for it. Smoother Bokeh than the 8.5cm F2. Both are great lenses.

Wide-angle: the 3.5cm F2.5 is as sharp as the 3.5cm F1.8, just slower. I got my 3.5cm F1.8 before prices went up. The 3.5cm F3.5- much better than I thought it would be, bought mine as it is MIOJ. Had one long ago, was only "okay stopped down". The 1949 lens- really good even wide-open.

The 2.8cm F3.5 is great, but you'll want an external finder for it. I use mine on the SP.

The 13.5cm F3.5 is really good, and dirt-cheap. Under $100 gets a really good one. The SP has framelines for it as well. The S3- external finder for 135, usually cheap and some older lenses come with it.
