lens mounting problem

I have ten and three-quarter inch Goerz-AO Red Dot Artar. The lens is in a barrel and I have an Ilex Universal #4 shutter for it. The front opening of the shutter is almost exactly the same size as the brass mounting flange of the lens. The flange rests nicely upon the threaded collar of the shutter. I would like to attach the flange to the shutter but cannot bring myself to use epoxy. Any suggestions?

Yes. I'd worry about the inter-element distance anyway.

clarification

The entire lens will mount in front of the shutter. I am not planning to alter the relationships of the elements of the lens. The lens sits nicely in front of the shutter with perhaps one-half inch of clearance. I just dislike the idea of making irreversible alterations to that shutter. Ideally I want an adhesive that is secure but reversible. I could have a machinist make me a threaded adapter - I have done that before - but it is costly.

I'm with you on not wanting to alter things, but I'd be afraid of trusting any adhesive. Besides, epoxy has a habit of being very hard alright, but not very strong. I pretty much gave up on epoxy as an adhesive years ago.

Have a step-up step down ring made to adapt it.

Being a cheapskate myself I'd take a whack at aircraft plywood from the local craft shop.

Stepping down? OD=inside diameter of the shutter. ID= outside diameter of the lens.

Up? make each section to size & sandwich them. I'd think the lens section would have to be thicker to accommodate the depth of the threads on the mount.

These are all helpful suggestions. Thank you Tom. Thank you John. I agree that trusting my Red Dot Artar to an adhesive is just too scary. I agree that having an adapter ring machined is likely to be too costly for me. I had three of them made in the very early 70s and they were affordable then but those days are gone forever. I am not sure what aircraft plywood is. For models? I will look into that. Again, thanks and I will keep you informed.

Yes, for model airplane building. Comes in all types--basswood, birch, and of course balsa. Fine grade small plywood, sheet wood--all kinds. I think I use more of my RC plane wood for photography than I do for my airplanes.

I have made an adapter out of mount board. First I laminated two sheet of 4-ply strathmore board together, then cut the piece so that it looks looks like a big washer. The inside of this piece fits the lens and the outside fits in the shutter. I then glued a square piece, also 2 ply strathmore, and bored a hole the same size. I finished the boring with 80 grit emery cloth. The lens and shutter fit so snugly that it is as if they are glued. I will glue the square piece to the front face of the shutter with a silicone adhesive. It took some time but it seems to work well
