Lens length issues?

Hello all - i've been lurking around, searching and reading since i'm fairly new to all this darkroom stuff, but i'm having a bit of an issue and hoped someone might be of assistance.

A while back i bought an Omega D2 and Dichrotic II head, along with Componon-S 50mm, 135mm and 150mm lenses. My issue is that i'm always having to have the enlarger head at the bottom or the very top of the column, and sometimes can't get the size i want at either position.

For a while now, i've been doing Ilford postcards from 35mm, but to get the image down to size i've had to use the 135mm with the head as high as it'll go - with the 50mm on i can barely get the frame down to a 5x7.

It actually wasn't too bad, seeing as i could actually get the sizes i wanted. But about two weeks ago i got the itch to go medium format. I wanted something smallish, but still a system SLR, so went with a Bronica ETRSi 645. Today i went to print some of my negatives, only to discover that the 135mm is too long to get anything larger than a 8x10. I'm fairly sure he used the setup for 6x7, as it came with the 6x7 negative holder (which for some reason seems to hold them crooked and off center?) and i can see it would do 11x14 in that setup.

Of course, this is all complicated by the fact that i'd like to eventually go large format, and who knows - maybe i'll get a 6x7/8/9 someday (the Fuji GX680 is very tempting).

So what direction should i go here? Somebody wanna trade me a 80/90mm Componon-S for my 135mm? Turn the enlarger so it's pointing at the floor when i want to do something big? Rig up some sort of mirror and do it horizontally?

Thanks for your help.

You buy lenses to match the format. It's pretty common to have a 50(35mm), 80(6x6), 105(6x9) and a 135/150 for four different formats on a 4x5 enlarger.

The bellows on those D2 Omegas is a little limiting in its range. Therefore they require different lengths of the lens cones to 'help out' the bellows. I think you need the 4.5 inch cone for the 150mm , a 2.75 inch cone for the 135mm and a flat plate for the 50mm and 80mm (when you get one).

Resale value of lenses is not good. You can never have too many enlarging lenses! I'd probably keep what you have and I'd just look for another 75 or 80mm.

I just printed some Ilford post cards on a D2 using a 50mm lens and 35mm neg. I took a 11x14 tray turn it upside down and put the easel on that. I did use some gaffers tape to keep the tray from sliding around. That raised the easel up enough to be able to print the neg without cropping. BTW I was printing for the post card exchange on filmwaster.com forum. It's not to late, sign up ends on April 15th.

Thanks for the advice guys - i'll have to try that tray thing. I'll start to look around for an 80mm. (Seems like all i do lately is try to find stuff to finish out my darkroom.) If anyone has one they'd be willing to trade for my 150mm, shoot me a PM and we'll work something out. I know above it says 135mm, but after some research and testing i think i'd rather part with the 150mm.
