I am looking to buy a lens hood which has a 58mm inner thread, if that is the correct way to describe it. The grooves of the thread should be inside the base, not outside. I have tried the usual marketplaces and I seem to be unable to find such a thing, not even from the Asian 3rd party suppliers or 3D printers.
You should be very specific as to what you are fitting the hood to. What lens? What camera? By identifying the lens you have a much greater chance of finding the proper hood. Pictures help.
its for my Leica X (113). The lens has an outer thread as described, so I need a hood whose thread is on its inside.
Yes, the camera has a smaller inside thread too, but that is not what i am after. And i also know about the Vario X lenshood which is made from Unobtainium.
From what I can tell, the lens has a 43mm filter thread. What other thread are you referring to -- and why do you need a larger filter thread INSIDE the lens hood? Why not put the filter on BEFORE the hood?
That ring may be a strengthening ring added to ensure the physical integrity of the lens - those threads may not be intended for mounting accessories at all!.
There are lenses for the Mamiya TLRs that employ the same approach.
I have not - and would not be part of the target market!
Do you have the manual? The English/German version is found here: https://leica-camera.com/sites/default/files/pm-92825-X-E_DE-EN.pdf
The manual is silent about those threads. I note as well that there is no Leica accessory lens shade listed in the manual.
In my experience, camera manufacturers like Leica rarely miss a chance at making more profit, if they can make money from such accessories.
And retailers love things like manufacturers' accessories, because they make much more money from them then they do from the sales of the cameras themselves.
All of which leads me to the assumption that those threads are not for mounting accessories.
I've not owned, nor will I, that camera. What's interesting about the reviews is that nobody seems to use a lens shade. The pictures they show look great even without one. I really value lens shades so understand the itnerst in foguring out how to add one affordably.
The X-V uses the inner thread. The x1 has a somewhat comparable design, you can take off the outer housing of the lens and screw in a somewhat longer element which then acts as 43mm filter holder.
You might get this: M58-M58 58mm x 0.75 Dual Female threaded camera lens adapter ring (https://www.ebay.com/itm/395507456196), then use a regular 58mm lens hood, or a step up/down ring with a different diameter lens hood.
I have bought other adapter rings from the seller and have been satisfied with them.
