lens-cap holder

A alternative to putting a cap into a bag (that you might not have with you) or having it swinging on a string around your camera would be:

( a simple DIY task with a piece of ABS board and an empty filter-ring)

-) magnetic - As the one in the link above but magnetic instead. One holder could take several sizes caps.
(magnet in recess to avoid the cap sliding off from the holder)

-) a strip of soft velcro attached to the camera strap and a hook strip to the lens-cap
(with the hook strip there always is the danger of damaging clothing or webbings)

-) a plate with an appropriarte clip attached to the camera strap

-) a clip (from a pen or other appliances) glued to the lens-cap to attach it to a shirt or trouser pocket or the waistband

-) Optech have/had a lens-cap on offer that is fixed to the filter thread by means of a hinge. May be not useful on rotating filter thread.

In England we have these things in our clothing called "pockets"

I often wear shirts and trousers without pockets.

And female dresses typically have no pockets either.

At £0.99 on eBay it hardly seems worth the DIY approach...

Sorry. I still live with idea that any photographic accessory is expensive and hard to come by.
I never saw this holder until today. I do not use ebay.

American Levis (possibly limited to 501 and 505 models only) have a feature of great value to photographers. The watch/coin pocket in the front right pocket is perfect size for a 55mm or smaller lens cap. It is possible that levis in larger sizes may accomodate larger lens caps but I have never checked to see if that pocket is a fixed size or proportional to the garment size.

I see, the clip solution.

Whether one considers a holder necessary or not, good to see that there are commercial solutions out there. Maybe I should stroll more the internet looking for such stuff. At brick and and mortar shops I haven't seen such so far.

None of the options listed apply in my case.
I remove the lens cap and drop it into the ball-head shroud that also doubles as a filter holder, brush holder, lens-cap holder ... whatever else. At the end of the session just pull out the cap, replace it, anything else in the shroud is removed and then placed over the ball-head. I think those cap keepers on bits of elastic or string are quite a nuisance flapping about wildly in the wind and it's easy to get it caught in something. More trouble then they're worth. I do like the velcro idea though: the hooked part has been known to be useful to secure something to a jumper (Polartec).

( Notice there's no lens cap in there? Right! It's missing... )

some of my crumplers (Au g bags) have small secondary pockets in mesh with Velcro fastening suitable for caps.

There are elastic straps that are placed around the lens and have a string that sticks on to the lens.
I also use pockets.
I also use camera bags.
