Lens board design theory

I appreciate everyone's input. The couple of acrylic boards I made work just fine. I actually chose to throw money at the problem. My camera takes 140x140mm boards as mentioned before. I ordered one of the fancy Chamonix 140mm to Technika adapter boards. Obviously, Technika boards are questionable with Copal 3 (can and has been done), and will not work with anything bigger.
I'm trying to standardize a "kit" of 8x10 lenses that will also work on 4x5 if needed.
@_T_ sadly, our local shop that may have been able to do that shuttered last year.

Sometimes its easier combining a no.3 shutter with a Technika board with a modest spacer ring in between. This move you lens nodal point a little bit further forward, but not enough to introduce any logistical inconvenience.

I've definitely seen some ebay listed lenses with a gap between lens board and shutter. I don't think I've ever seen "shutter spacer rings" as a single item for sale. I like the idea though.

These are probably mounted with a flange, the threaded fitment that attaches to the front of the lensbaord with screws as opposed to the retaining ring which goes on the back of the board.

Linhof makes two Technika pattern boards for the No. 3 Copal, one comes with a spacer so that the shutter doesn't interfere with the front standard of the Technika or the Techno cameras. The board without the spacer would be used n the Technikardan for example where interference with the front standard wouldn't be an issue.

David; That makes sense as well. I do have 1 lens with an actual spacer ring though. I'll keep my eyes peeled for extra screws showing on the back side of the lens board.

I've made a lot of odd-sized lens boards in a home work shop and found that aluminum sheet worked better for me than birch plywood or plastics.

Believe me, I wanted to use Aluminum as I have about 3 square feet of it, but to do it safely, it would have meant a reasonable tool investment which negated the cost of just ordering pre-made ones from someone else. There's also the time involved. My 2-layer acrylic boards are pretty stiff and fit the camera tightly. I had the acrylic, the adhesive and the appropriate hole saws on hand.
I've run into the same sort of issue in wanting to make myself a "fancy" dark cloth. At a local fabric store, the only outdoor water resistant and breathable stuff they had would have cost me $50 alone. then there's thread, velcro and/or elastic cord. plus, we get into the fact I haven't run a sewing machine in something like 20 years. A dark cloth becomes a weekend project. Nope. Materials cost+time kick it right into not making any sense.

This was fun.
