Leitz Negative Carrier

Correction - does anyone know if a Leitz Focomat negative carrier will work with a Valoy enlarger?

Yes, Valoy and Focomat Ic carriers are identical.

Yes they do. I have a 1c and a Valoy II and the neg carriers work fine on either enlarger. It's the condenser mount that is different between the 1c and the Valoy II.

They work on Valoy II as well, I have both Focomats and Valoy II, same carrier.

I don't know the first Valoy, and I assume that's what your question is about.

Like most others here I have the Valoy II and the Focomat 1c. Indeed both take the same negative carriers. If I remember well the earlier negative carriers had longer pins and no 'window' for the negative numbers. But they can be used on both enlargers anyway. The top half of the lamp head can also be exchanged, and also the extension ring needed to bring the lens down . . .

Great enlargers, by the way! For more than 35 years I have mostly printed 135mm with the 1c. However, I have always had this weak spot for the Valoy II which was my first enlarger. This year I finally turned one into a mature enlarger (like the 1c), reaching up to 20X24 (50X60) easily.

I think the AN disc & spacer ring will work on both the Valoy 2 and 1c, but not on the Valoy.

The AN glass (disc) does fit the condenser of the Valoy 2, but it is essential to also include the 3mm spacer ring as without it the head is out of alignment. It has been awhile since I did that, but I believe to install this spacer ring you must take of the top half of the head, unscrew four screws, take out the spring and condenser, and then put the spacer ring at the lowest point there. After that re-install condenser and the spring . . .

If you want to just clean the Valoy II condenser, you can take it out from below . . . just push it up and turn the condenser until the bayonet comes free . . .

The black Valoy II came with the clear condenser. The dark grey-blue and the light grey Valoy II most likely have the 'frosted' AN condensers . . . no need for any AN glass.
