In 2009 purchased a 2nd cam to convert my Summicron 50mm (for Leica R only, as stated on the lens) to fit the Leicaflex SL. I bought it directly from Don Goldberg. Note that 3-cam lenses already have the screw holes in place to accept the second cam. I'm not sure about the 2-cam lenses, though

Thanks for the tip. I checked Don's site and he doesn't list any cams, but I might just have to contact him and ask. I don't think the two cam lenses are pre-drilled and tapped, but that's not a problem for me. I just need a source for the third cam.

Of course, you should contact them directly. As is the case with everything Leica, be prepared for a high price.

When R cameras were introduced, Leica USA added 3rd cam to all of my Leicaflex lenses at a very reasonable price. Now? As with the Leica watch, who knows?

Yes, adding the third cam used to be relatively cheap, but noting seems cheap anymore. I've done some serious pondering since I ask this question here and have decided I'm going to leave my lenses well enough alone. I have a couple R4 bodies I'm going to part with and just keep my trusty Leicaflex original since it has one of the best and brightest mirror and prism setups of any 35mm camera I own. Plus, I don't use 35mm film hardly at all anymore. I mainly use my Leicaflex R lenses mostly on a Sony A7RII or Oly OMD where they shine like a glowing star.

The R 4 cameras were not known for reliabilit, especially the electronics. Mine died long ago. Like you, I prefer my Leicaflexes.

I actually sold my Leicaflex SL since I could still get a fair price for it over my original Leicaflex. Kind of regret it, but like I said, I don't shoot 35mm very much at all anymore. If I do get the urge to go out with a 35mm I usually grab one of my Contax G1's with its 3 lens kit. The two R4's are going on the auction block shortly and then I'll be down to one Leicaflex with a bunch of glass and one Leica IIIa with its very nice Summitar. No more Leica cameras for me unless they fall from the sky and into my lap.
