Leica R8 question

Hi,

I have a question about the Leica R8 :
I can buy a 2nd hand one, which i was able to check a bit.

I noticed that the shutter can not be released when the back is open.

Is this a normal R8 feature ?

yes..it is a safety feature......I have had an R8 for five years and love it for what it does....
