Leica-M to Nikon AND Nikon to Leica-M Adapters???

Does anyone know of/can anyone recommend one?? If you have one or have used one, what's your thoughts on it?

Seems all I need to do it find a viewfinder, then I can use my MF 20mm Nikon on the Leica!!!

Please, do reserve your comments about why I would ever want to use a Nikon lens on a Leica. I've heard all that before. I have both Nikon and Leica gear, and all I'm really looking for with a device like this is the chance to mix & match some of the gear. I mean, I can't afford a Leica 21mm at the moment, yet there's a great Nikon 20mm sitting there. I often have to take both kinds of gear out because one system has something the other doesn't. Anyway, I'm rambling now....

I have one, it looks like the one you linked to but without the writing on the side. I bought it 2nd hand for much less than is being sold there. I use mine to mount a fisheye, you can see it in this thread:

(there was a url link here which no longer exists)

As for Leica lenses on a Nikon, I think you may loose infinity focus.


Edit: my adaptor has got the writing on the side. I suppose it is the same one as linked, then.

It's Nikon-to-Leica that I actually wanted to know about, to be able to use the Nikon 20mm on the Leica will be so handy. I wouldn't really go the other way

Thanks very much for posting. I'll take a look and see if I can find one cheap..... seems to be a tonne of them coming from China....

20mm on the M6: You'll need a viewfinder and the larger SLR lens will block a certain amount of your view.

I've often considered using my SLR 15mm, 18mm or 19mm on an M, but they are relatively huge beasts which would make accurate framing awkward for the reasons above...
There is also something to say in favour of using super-wides on an SLR , because of more accurate composition - especially of objects in the foregrond and the ability to get very close (I take very different pictures with my 15mms on SLRs and on rangefinders).
A huge advantage of native rangefinder super-wides is that they are tiny.

Tiny and light, you can lose them and their view finders in a crevice of the gbag and forget they are there.

A Leica-M to Nikon F adaptor would be impossible. The lens register distance of a Leica-M lens is too short to mount onto a Nikon F body, you wouldn't get usable images.

Novoflex made an adapter for Nikon lenses on M39. I have one of these and use an 18mm Nikkor on my M6 (I added an M39 to M adapter ring, too). The Novoflex adapter is very precise and rock solid, bought it used for 40 Euros.

So, let me get this straight - you had a Leica body and a Nikon 20mm lens that could be used together with this adapter, saving you from having to fork out 1000's on a Leica 21mm or so, yet you couldn't bare the thought of paying what they were asking for the adapter, so you bought an FM2 instead?

I'm sure there's something I'm missing here.

Can't rrrrrrrrrrreally afford a new Novoflex or Cameraquest adapter, and there doesn't appear to be any going 2nd hand at the moment.

Has anyone bought one of these Chinese ones? There are so many on Ebay, hard to tell which is the better seller to go through..... or which is the better adapter..... if they are in fact different....

Oh, sorry, didn't I mention that I wanted this to be an inexpensive exercise if at all possible?!

Well, the C/V 21mm gets mixed reviews (most love it, I'm not totally happy with mine). The Zeiss ZM 21mms might be close to 1000 *something*, but are arguably as good or better than the Leica 21mm ASPH (and are what I hope to get hold of sooner or later).

Why not use one of my (very good) SLR super-wides? Size & weight (& framing)!
The RF kit is also my light & compact kit: It doesn't make sense to use lenases which are bigger & heavier than necessary with it (and if size & weight are not important, I'll grab an SLR).

Well, I do have a few "ebay adapters", especially to adapt Nikon and Contax lenses to my EOS.

To put it in a nutshell, the are awful, that's why I bought good adapters in the end. I bought used one. It's manufacturer order name was "LEINIK".

A little OT, but I have a Hasselblad (lens) to Leica adaptor which was in a box of stuff I bought recently in an auction of camera bits.
Still trying to figure out why someone would want to do that...

In the absence of money to buy a 21mm lens for the M6, I'm talking about using the Nikon to Leica adapter with my Nikon 20mm here.

You think I haven't gone window-shopping for an actual lens?! For now I have to be satisfied with an adapter to use my 20mm Nikon, so that's what I'm asking about here.

OK, well, I ordered what I hope is the better (if one is better than the other) Chinese Nikon to Leica-M adapters, and a Voigtlander 21mm viewfinder (can't really go wrong using that with a 20mm lens, eh?), so hopefully some fun & games to be had when it gets here

Adapter is yet to arrive, but I got the Voigtlander viewfinder already. OK, it's not Leica & it's plastic, but it seems well-built and it's bright enough to look through.

Considering that you cannot actually lock it in place in the hot-shoe, I do wonder if it will become quite a loose fit after it's been put on & off 200 times. Anyone got one & found that to happen over time and now fixes it on with gaffer tape?

Somewhat pointless when this lens is actually more usable on any F-series Nikon. I personally feel that without a wide-angle perspective viewfinder, using ultra-wides on a rangefinder is swimming upstream: and SLR will show you how the perspective feels and part of using ultra-wide effectively requires visualization of being "in the space." Standard .72x Leica VFs aren't even close. Fine for 35mm lenses, though.
