Leica m leather

Hi guys, I am overhauling my M6, It is in pretty bad cosmetic condition, ''i thought'' it was in full working order until I had the very embarrassing situation of a potential buyer testing it only to develop the roll and
have it come out dud, , Turns out the rewind release lever is jammed down inside the camera, So while I'm striping it i might as well do it up a bit,

?1 where can i get replacement leather, ''should i just cut my own?
?2 have you ever seen a good home DIY paint job? or should i get it baked?
if any one has any experience or advice id like to hear it.

The usual recommended sources for new coverings are Aki-Asahi or Camera Leather. Both offer very accurately cut replacement coverings in a variety of materials. Camera Leather has a bad reputation for response times, but folks report that the product is good. Because of that, Aki-Asahi seems to be a little more popular. I've not used either one, so far, but I do need to change that for one of my cameras.

As for painting, you are probably better off to leave it alone.

My favourite camera repairer is having great fun and doing a brisk international trade re-painting Leicas and other classic cameras. Olive green seems to be quite popular.

He is a wonderful craftsman, so the results look great.

I've used camera leather a couple of times, both with black leather or griptac for ltm or M bodies.
The griptac is great!
I'm guessing that the situations with long waits MAY BE unusual cameras or colors.

FWIW there's an ample supply of thin leather available at resale shops. They call them ladies purses.
