I acquired this very interesting lens (Meyer 75mm Biotar) in Leica M mount a few months back that I have decided to let go of to recoup some cost for a recent acquisition of a 50 APO that I picked up at a great price. It is special and not to be dismissed amongst the sea of offerings today. I like it a lot but I have over consumed on Leica a bit and need to throttle it down. It is extremely well made (German manufacture). The build quality is of a higher standard then Voigtlander, Zeiss or other 3rd party manufacturers. It comes as close as I have seen to Leica fit and finish. Its about the size, feel and weight of the 50mm Noctilux 0.95. Everything is finished very nicely and it has good black matte light baffling throughout including the front thread and element areas. The lens looks and feels well thought out. It has a very well dampened click-less aperture ring and a smooth focus throw typical of many fast portrait lenses. The Aperture blades are rounded for good oof effect and character throughout its range.
The images it produces have good contrast and clarity and its fingerprint is much like the new Leica 50mm F1.2 Noctilux. They are of the same Biotar formula. The falloff from center (wide open) is extreme. The colors and contrast from the glass remind me of modern Voigtlander lenses. It does have some CA wide open but it cleans up and gets very sharp from F2 and beyond. I have only had time to do a few test runs with it and that is about it. It is not rangefinder coupled and I only use it with live view...given that its a 75mm f1.5 that falls off super fast from center that did not sway my buying decision. I have included some test images I made with it that are direct exports of raws. One wide open and ne stopped down to about f4 along with coinciding field of focus images I made from it.
I bought it directly from Meyer in Germany. It is is in like new condition and comes with the warranty and purchase paperwork directly from the manufacturer, box, caps the whole nine yards. I would love to see it reviewed by someone here who has the time to put it to good use. Save yourself an extra $200-250 and buy mine...its a good one! Check out the links below and a review of the lens from a guy I follow on Youtube.
I prefer PayPal F and F as I am not a business and these are my personal tools (toys) but if you prefer G and S please add 3% on top for the fee.
