Leica lenses: - Everyone knows that Leica lenses are the dog’s bollocks of optics. They are made from rare earth elements that are only found near the centre of the earth. Mining and assembling of these rare elements are a huge task, involving thousands of miners and engineering experts in innovative mining technology. Minute quantities of these rare earths are then placed in platinum crucibles and then subjected to heat and pressure only matched by the production of the finest diamonds. Each lens is then ground by Peruvian virgins underwater and assembled to produce a matching set of optical perfection elements that could only be matched by zirconium optics from the planet zendos. When a Leica lens is placed in any proximity with another lens such as a Nikon, or Zeiss they will simply roll away and commit suicide by smashing to the ground.

And I thought it was the special coating generated by the farts of angels that made them so good....

So now I know why my 50mm F1.4 Ais Nikon recently leapt to its death on West Georgia as I walked toward the downtown library: It was too close in proximity to my M6 and the 50mmt ASPH that was mounted on it. If I'd only known!

After you have used Hasselblad lenses, then you will feel that Leica lenses are too bourgeois.

Since one may be able to form a perfectly usable image from the glass in a Coke bottle (polished real nice of course), I would say that Leitz lenses may be overrated (ducking to avoid the Leica fanboys).

You don't need a camera, just the lens and an alter to worship at, maybe some incense will be proper.

As much as I like my Leica lenses, I like my Zeiss lenses more.

That is because if you had Hasselblad lenses, you had Zeiss lenses! Lot of Leica owners use Zeiss lenses also. I am sure both Zeiss and Leitz have their winners and less winners.

Zeiss Zeiss, or Cosina "Zeiss"?

I like my Carl Zeiss (including Jena and Opton) as well as one Nikkormat and a [Cosina] Voigtlander on my Contax iia (as well as other cameras- no Hassy [yet]).

I like the Leica silver or "chrome" finished lenses, they use real brass not some uber practical aluminum alloy. This damn near doubles the weight on my Summicrons, all the easier to carry.
I bought new, a Zeiss ZM 35 2.8, recently made in Japan the coatings almost look wet, like a beautiful cat's eye.

It's a shame that we don't have millions to spend.

Ah. That's magnificent.
However, you missed a few details, as you have obviously never purchased a brandy-new Leitz lens.
Nor have l.
But, a factory-new Leitz lens comes wrapped in a brain tanned leather pouch, sewed with the pubic hairs of the Valkyries. Where the brains originated is a truly sensitive question and shall not be adressed here.
Rumour has it that the hide from which said leather was made came from Thor's scrotum, however Leitz has made a lot of lenses and I doubt that even Thor had that big a pair. And it's by no means certain that Thor is dead.
I do like my 1946 Summitar. Sharp, smooth, and the Valkyrie urine coating is very good.

I was just scanning a roll exposed with my Nikon 55mm macro and just before that, I scanned a roll from my Leica and the Zeiss 35mm lens which is reputed to be sharper than any Leica lens. Yeah. The Nikon images were far superior in every way. I suspect that the Leica mystique is bullshit. Pretty lenses. Great ergonomics. Impressively heavy. But they don't appear to hold a candle to great Japanese optical engineering and manufacturing.

What is the porpoise of this thread? Another trolling on Leica?

Was wondering the same, I suppose someone woke up cranky and didn't take their meds in the morning.

I do wonder though, this is not in the rangefinder forum so are we talking all Leica lenses or just R ones?
