I bought a beat up Leica IIIa which had a rough film advance but worked well for a year until I got back from a trip recently. When I got off the plane I noticed the film advance would only advance partially and there was a rattling sound inside when I tilted the camera. It also appears something broke loose inside and the camera shutter speed cannot be adjusted. What could have caused this? Suggestions? Thanks

Could be many things, it's gonna need the top cover pulled off I would think. Get in there and see what happened. Not for the novice camera repair person, and the right tools would be a big plus.

Could be a broken piece of film Jammed in the mechanism. How did you trim the leader?

The camera had no film in it and was successfully rewound at last use. The rattling sound is of an object tumbling loose inside.
