Good evening,

I have a leica iii? I am not sure which model I have serial number is 598067. If that helps. I had a roll of film rip and jam in between the shutter and the pressure plate. I removed the vulcanite cover and removed the jam but it has caused the shutter to get stuck after I cock the shutter and hit the shutter release, the cloth shutter only partially releases. Any body have any suggestions on how to fix?

Thanks

It is a very old camera. A neat camera but it needs attention. Just like us very old people

Looks like the shutter cord broke or came off the drum.

There are repair guides on the web, one at http://rick_oleson.tripod.com/leicashutter.pdf

I once bought a FED on a lark and the shutter curtains needed repair, after reading this guide I put the camera in the trash. Leicas are at least worth repairing.

Could be a piece of film jammed in somewhere. You may be able to gently pull the curtain out, but dont force anything.
I just got my iiif recurtained cost was cheaper than buying another here.

Looks like a IIIc or IIIf. Send it to Youxin Ye or someone similar. It'll cost $100 or so but the camera will be good for another 50 years. If you buy another camera,. it might have problems of its own.

At worst it looks like a broken or detached shutter curtain strap.

At best there's a sliver of torn film that got into the running channelsof the curtain or under the rollers/drum.
How to get at it? Depends on how far you're willing/daring to go to get it out.

I would also send off the camera to Mr. Ye. I had shutter issues with a IIIc and he repaired the camera and replaced the shutter curtain for just a little over $200. That is about what I would have to pay for another camera on eBay that would still be likely to need repair. I now have a reliable camera which should work we;; for many years.

If this happened to one of my FED cameras, I would simply pull on the shutter to see if it moves since those cameras aren't worth paying to get repaired.

I had my 111f CLA'ed with a new shutter curtain done by Youxin Ye and now it works perfectly.

Youxin did my IIIC about twelve years ago and it's still going strong.

For future reference : the film leader has to be trimmed on these models before you load . If it isn't film pieces can be ripped off and jam the mechanism.
I know, and I had trimmed the leader on only the second roll of film that I was going to push through the camera. But the leader ripped and got jammed against the shutter and pressure plate.
