This is a very nice example of a Leica II, black and nickel. The body started life as a model 1 in 1929, and was upgraded by Leitz in 1933 with the rangefinder top (from the newest model III - it has the diopter adjuster). The camera was completely overhauled by Youxin Ye in 2019 - most importantly, he replaced the beam splitter, so the rangefinder is nice and bright. The camera functions perfectly, with accurate shutter speeds , even frame spacing, and smooth winding.

The uncoated Elmar 5cm lens, also nickel, dates from 1933. Youxin also CLA’d this lens. It is clean and clear and in excellent condition. Very few minor surface marks. It comes with aftermarket caps, and an ingenious adapted FISON hood with two little prongs which grab the aperture selector. Makes it very easy to change apertures.

The uncoated Elmar 3.5cm is from 1940, a youngster. It is in VG condition, with the slightest amount of haze. It does not affect the image quality. Don from DAG advised me to wait until the lens really needed a CLA before sending it in. Caps are aftermarket reproductions.

Also included in the set:

  • a clean and clear (and black repainted) SBOOI 50mm finder. Matches nicely with the camera, and it is much better than the camera’s built in “window”.
  • A NOOKY close-up attachment for the Elmar 5cm, which allows much closer focusing than standard. It’s a clever device that works better than you would expect. It even compensates for parallax.
  • A leather Kenji half-case with strap. The early Leicas did not have strap lugs. This case does.
  • An aftermarket copy of the ABLON film trimming device. Makes loading your new Barnack a breeze!
As a bonus, I’m including a user copy of Leica’s 9cm f 4 Elmar. Outside of the lens is user, glass inside is in good shape, coated, focuses properly, makes sharp images. With caps.

Everything is in nice shape and ready to shoot. I have several of these old Barnack Leicas, and they are a blast to use, and teach you a lot about photography basics.
