Hi,

I bought some junk of eBay (as you do...)and included with the lot was these couple of widgets. They have Ernst Leitz, Wetzlar on them... Just wondered if anyone knew what they were? Don't suppose they are of any use or value as the seller (who seemed to be a photo dealer) wouldn't have chucked then in for nothing... but I'm just curious.

First exhibit is a ring with external and internal threads, neither of which seem to have anything to do with the Leica sizes I'm familiar with (39 mm etc.) It has f.Elm. on it, which I'm tempted to think is something to do with Elmar? The hole in the centre is very small, maybe it is a microscope or enlarger widget?

Second exhibit looks like it could be an extension tube - but bizarrely has no thread...? It does have a little knob and clamp arrangement and is matt black inside.

Just wondered if anyone had any ideas what they were...

Thanks

The second is definitely a lens hood...

The first a bellows or enlarger adapter for a micro lens?
(25mm inner thread IIRC)

The first is, I think, a diopter for an M series camera.

The first looks more like an adapter of some sort.. what are the inner and outer thread sizes?

As others have said the second is a lens hood for the Elmar - Leitz code FISON.

As an aside I found that a combination of this hood, my fat fingers and the Elmar resulted in frustration and finger marks over the lens glass when I tried to change aperture with it attached!

No idea about the first item.

John

They made several hoods for the Elmar, one had a lever that allowed changing apertures/f-stops(thanks 2f).
Leitz had sooooo many adapters microscope, bellows, telescopes It's a real PITA to figure out what it is if it's not marked

A lens hood?

Why is it cylindrical rather than flared, I wonder? Is there a bit missing?

The adaptor ring has an inside thread of about 20 mm and an outside thread of about 36 mm.

To take up less space and especially not to block the rangefiner windows...

If the inner thread is for a microscope lens, the size is W 0.8 x 1/36'', the so called RMS (Royal Microscopical Society) thread. Lenses with this thread were sometimes used as macro lenses. The Photar and Luminar lenses had the RMS thread afaik.
