Leica Elmarit-R 24mm or 28mm

Hi,

For those with experience on these 2 lenses, which one is the more desirable for general traveling? I already have the Vario-Elmar R 35-70 with my R6, really enjoying the compact package but if I want to go lighter, 24mm or 28mm is a good option hence considering. There are merits for either one while 24mm is more expensive in general. On the other hand, I am also considering adding 21-35mm f3.5-4 to improve the range and to bypass 24mm or 28mm altogether.

It's tough to answer for someone else but I own two 28mm's and a Zeiss 25mm.
I think the 28mm is a better choice because, you have the framelines, it's a great one-two combo with a 50mm, more available on the used market, more models to choose from.
I also had the 21mm but found it too wide, although I have an 18mm when I need real wide.

Yes 28mm is more popular and cheaper than 24mm. However 24mm is still compact on the Leica R6 and works well with my 35-70mm zoom.

For years I used the Asph 35-70 and the 24. I would consider the 28 too close to 35mm to offer a real jump in wide-angle coverage, that's the concern. The 28's are excellent of course, particualrly the later version. However 24 is a really useful wide that pulls in a lot more then 35mm without looking unnatural.
The 24 is an older design and is somewhat overpriced ( always has been ) , but has loads of punch, contrast and colour saturation if you get a later example with the best coatings, I love its look.

The 24mm has been one of my mainstays, first on my R3, then SL2, and now my R7. As Mark J says, it's a fantastic lens. And I'm not sure it if it's overpriced, the lens sells for what people think it's worth.

It is really an individual thing: For some photographers 28mm work better or best, for others 24mm.

For me 28mm are often already a bit too wide in landscape photography, I use 35mm more often.
But in cities, with close distances to your subjects like famous buildings, 28mm and sometimes 24mm work much better. 35mm there is not wide enough (for me).

Yes, that's probably the best way of putting it. It was painful to buy, but I know that every time I fire the shutter, it will deliver everything I want from the scene.
ps. a 24 can be very useful in the mountains.

I had a 28mm and sold it. but that was due to my preferences , not because the lens itself was bad.
