I am trying to determine to which series my 50 cm 2.8 thread mount ELMAR may be. As far as I can determine it was made in 1956 serial #1453607. I have read there were series 1 and 2. Also is it true that one or the other is mose desireable?

There was a 2nd series of Elmar 50mm f.28 M mount..... 1994-2007.
AFAIK the LTM version ceased production in 1962.... the lllg (last screwmount Leica) was only produced until 1960...

Yes I know of the 1994 M however I have read that the screw mount was also produced in a series. That is what I would like to know.

According to my book they only made one version. The optical formula was the same as the 3.5. The increase in speed was due to new glass. I think the 3,5 version is worth more than the 2.8. I've never seen ad ad claiming that a "second"version was made and more valuable.

Thank you. It confused me as reading the claims I had thought that there would have been no reason for successive versions.
