I'm looking for a reasonable priced repair person for leica cameras. Curtains are good the camera is just dried out needs fresh clean and lube. Its a Leica IIIc late wartime half race with 5cm elmar looks clear but also stiff and dry.

Now I just sent a Rolleiflex 2.8 biometar to Harry Fleenor which is a rare camera so my budget is thin right now. So any thoughts on good budget work?

Thanks Randy

Budget and Leica don't seem to go together. I'm not sure if/why it takes more labor to lube than a Pentax, but it costs 3-times the price.

My first Leica I bought 10 years ago for $100 needed new curtains kind of a basket case. I sent it to fedka and Yuri sent it to the Ukraine A year later I got it back He done a great job with it Its still my shooter only charged $150 plus shipping. The shipping added up. I may try Youxin Ye's for this one

Youxin Ye has a price list on his site. I just had a lllG done that needed some parts replaced and it was just about $250. Very nice job too.
I seem to remember under $200 for earlier cameras.

WRT Hatchetmans post I don't know why either considering they're simpler cameras.
With that said, I never declined the extra bucks when I repaired them for an independent shop.

Over the years Don Goldberg (DAG Camera) has done about 8 or 9 Leica screw mount bodies for me. I am very pleased with his work. He's the only person I'd send my LTM cameras to.

Good luck.

either youxin ye or DAG will do you a good job. Youxin seems to be a titch cheaper, DAG has a huge waiting list, no matter who does the work it will cost you at least $200 by the time you get done with shipping and all.

Damn things are worth it, too. I just acquired a Leica II that Youxin did a few months ago -- lovely thing, a work of art.

I had a local guy who did camera repairs once show me two parts that did the same thing in a Nikon camera -- one part, fairly complex, fit in the cheaper camera while the same part (or same function, anyway), fairly simple in construction, fit in a more expensive camera.

The simpler part cost more. Why? They figure if you own the expensive camera, you can pay more. Last time I discussed repairs with the pros at the local paper where I worked, they complained that any service, for anything, on their spiffy new $5 K digital canons, cost around $700.

Same deal.

Leicas are wonderful cameras and we want them to work. If paying a few skilled craftspeople whatever they want to fix them is what it takes, I'm happy to pay.

Youxin Ye serviced my IIf which had shutter capping and a cloudy rangefinder. He did a very nice job, quickly and at reasonable cost. Good communications.
