Hi all,

this flea market is getting better and better ... I got myself Leica C2 40-90 zoom camera .
I am waiting for new battery, while waiting - question: are there any C2 users here ? How is it in comparing to Leica Z2X (I have Z2X and I am happy with results).

I see in manual it has 3 aspheric elements:

Objektiv: Vario-Objektiv
40-90mm f3.5 - f7.7
4 Linsen in 4 Gliedern
Drei aspharische Linsenflachen.

Regards,

Battery came, test done: it is a strange camera. Big, size like M cameras, but it fits nice in hands. Very sharp lens, specially on the 40mm end. Closest focusing is 0.7m on the 40mm end, around 1m on the 90mm end.
More loud zooming than other compacts. It has one irritating function: Auto-zoom. It zooms by itself to get best frame according to distance from closest focused subject. You can override this option, but it is irritating. Flash is working ok, all in all nice camera. In comparing to Z2X that I have - better picture quality, bigger, louder, more quirky.

You bought a non zoom Leica compact but you made a mistake and sent it to me. Leica and zooms are not good match. My and your Vario 35-70 is a proof of that. And if it has a shifting viewfinder , you are welcome to bottle bottom , every time I hold my mini zoom , I see a black tube and than I made correct my sight and starts to see the outside of the tunnel. I think it is one of the ugliest cameras I have ever see , its like women lipstick corner stand design  lol !!!

40mm would be great even whatever I say and with Portra and diffused midday spring light , it would produce amazing results. Dont use zoom more than 50mm. If you can find a FED 2 with good Fed 50 , it beats that camera and does not require caring about battery with annoying on off sounds and hard to press buttons.

Today I went again to my shop with flea market - and I have Leica AF-C1! What is with this people - giving Leicas for couple of euros? I know it is not M Leica, but it is a Leica.

Anyhow C1 is much better than C2 - lens is f2.8 not f3.5 on the 40mm end, and f5.6 instead f7.7 on tele end.

It is not a zoom lens - you have tele option where lens goes to 80mm, but those are two only options: 40mm and 80mm. Something like tri elmar design. Lens is of course very sharp, test negative is drying, still not done the prints, but negative look great and sharp.

After playing a bit - all those point and shoot Leicas will go on the big auction site - since I have the M's.

I got it. When you become old fart and ill and needed to pay hospital bills with your M3 and M6 ,these cheap Leicas would keep you still a film photographer.

Or present them to your cat , I think its paw could press to the shutter release very successfully

I have two Leica C1's and they break easily. The switches on top are unrepairable since they are little tin bubbles and the insides are all plastic. I am sad because the lens are very nice, but the cameras are junk and you are lucky to find a working one.

I am curous how long it will remain working?

Yes, lens is very nice. Well - if it breaks soon - I will let you all know, but I hope not .
