Hello,
I was wondering if anyone has had a summicron with an aperture ring that doesn't click stop but rather moves smoothly between f stops?
A friend just bought one and is trying to figure out if it is working as it should or is something wrong with it.
It is a mid 80's version.
I don't have that lens but I don't think any lens should be doing that. Look into the lens and see if the aperture blades are moving correctly - your friend may want to send the lens in for a look-over
It is possible that someone removed the 'clicker' - usually a bent leaf spring or a ball bearing & coil spring - because they wanted a continuous aperture for TTL metering. It is more likely someone took the lens apart to clean the inner surfaces and diaphragm and the little ball bearing went rolling off the table and on to the floor and never to be found again.
I have a pre war Summar 50 f/2 with no click stops. It also has an odd aperture scale, f/2, f/2.2, f/3.2, f/4.5, f/6.3, f/9, f/12.5. I just throw it in the general area of where a normal stop would be numerically.
