Dear All,

I‘be just bought one of these from eBay and when I activate the close focus range, I can’t get the images to align.

Is it meant to be tricky? Am I missing something?

Assuming it’s faulty, what would be the course of action?

Do you have the goggles that go with the lens?

Yes. What’s weird is the normal focusing range is completely fine. The M2 that arrived a few days ago had been serviced last year.

I suspect that everything was calibrated for regular 0.7 - infinity lenses and somehow they didn’t take into account the dual range lens. I don’t know if that’s possible, but that’s what it seems like.

It looks like I’ll have to get the rangefinder calibrated, and whilst I’m at it, I’ll have it custom painted.

Weren't the DR and goggles normally sold as a set? I believe they're going to have RF/close focus issues if they're mismatched. Since there were 2 versions of the DR, the serial numbers on the camera and goggles should be checked to see if they're for the same DR lens. I'm pretty sure yours can be adjusted to work, though w/ the properly mated pair they should focus w/o any adjustments.

You may have the wrong goggles! mine does that too because someone switched the goggles from one series of the DR to the other.
Which ones do you have? attach a pic. Perhaps we have each others and can swap!

Been a long time since I owned a DR but I think the goggles are adjustable to match the lens. Also what camera are you attempting to use them on. They don't work well with the M6 and newer models.

That’s a great suggestion! It would be just my luck, though, if you had the exact same goggles!

I have the M2 - specifically chosen because I wanted this lens!

Don't align vertically or horizontally? If it is vertically it sounds like a problem with the goggles. You should go into more detail....

It’s a vertical alignment issue. Now that I’ve googled this, it turns out it’s an issue quite a few people have had - wrong goggles sold with the lens.

Dood, this is our lucky day! This is mine - the way to tell the difference in the two versions is the Leica script. Mine says E. Leica Wetzlar in a 'frame'
Yours just says Leitz.

They work perfectly with the M6, M-A, MP. They do not work with the M6 TTl or M7 because the body is taller on the top plate.
