Just read the label on this new developer that arrived today, and I saw that the shelf life is supposed to be "indefinite". Upon further reading, I see this applies not to the bottle, but to the stoppered, diluted working solution of 1:9. The tray life is also supposed to be one working day. Wow. Sounds a lot different than my Dektol.

Without wishing to suggest that you may have misinterpreted what the wording says, can you give us the actual quote on the LegacyPro leaflet?

I have to agree with Paul It does sound too good to be true if it is stated exactly as your reading of it.

Thanks

Sure, I can do that pentaxuser. It says,

"Dilute: 1:9 (of course, they mean 1+9, but everyone seems to do it this way). For Use In: Tray. Solution temp: 68f, RC 3/4 to 3 min, FB 3/4 to 4 min. Shelf Life :diluted solution/closed container: indefinite. Shelf Life: working solution in tray: 1 working day. Capacity: 8x10 sheets per gallon/ltr in tray: 100/26."

If its a Polymax clone I think Freestyle got it wrong. Between the 2, Kodak and Freestyle I would error on the side of Kodak. The 2 months for an opened bottle can be extended by using air suction device used to keep wine fresher longer or a collapsible plastic bottle.

I read somewhere that while this is a clone of Polymax t as Paul mentioned, Polymax is also a clone of Ektaflo liquid developer. FWIW, the Legacypro developer prints look identical to prints I developed in Dektol. The brown residue in the tray afterward is even the same.
Could Polymax be essentially a liquid version of Dektol?

In Europe, it used to be sold as Liquid Dektol .
It has been my favorite print developer for years.
Unfortunately, I don't think that Polymax T is being sold anymore in individual user, non-commercial lab quantities.
Same with T-Max RS developer.

My Legacy Pro Paper Developer

In the year 2525, if man is still alive
If woman can survive, they may find my Legacy Pro Paper Developer is still good

In the year 3535
Ain't gonna need to tell the truth, tell no lie
Everything you think, develop
will develop with my Legacy Pro Paper Developer

In the year 4545
You ain't gonna need your teeth, will need your eyes
To see the prints I developed
in my still good my Legacy Pro Paper Developer

In the year 5555
Your arms hangin' limp at your sides
Your legs got nothin' to do
But, my Legacy Pro Paper Developer is still good

In the year 6565
You won't need no husband, won't need no wife
You'll pick your son, pick your daughter too
From prints developed in my Legacy Pro Paper Developer

In the year 7510
If God's a coming, He oughta make it by then
Maybe He'll look around Himself and say
Nice prints made in my Legacy Pro Paper Developer

In the year 8510
God is gonna shake His mighty head
He'll either say I'm pleased where man has been
Or marvel at the potency of my Legacy Pro Paper Developer

In the year 9595
I'm kinda wonderin' if my Legacy Pro Paper Developer is gonna be alive
I had to increase development time by 10% to reach gamma of 0.8
For the first time ever

Doesn't mean "forever"...

indefinite | ˌinˈdef(ə)nət | adjectivelasting for an unknown or unstated length of time: they may face indefinite detention. • not clearly expressed or defined; vague: their status remains indefinite.

Implies a long time (longer than the purchaser could wait maybe), but could mean "until it stops working"
