The always thorough, and worth a daily visit, Oxford Dictionary of National Biography has today a life of Lee Miller written by her son. It will stay there as a link for about a week.

Antony Penrose has contributed to some excellent books about the life of his mother, "The Lives of Lee Miller" is definitely woth reading.

Miller was a n extremely talented photographer.

I have a lot of time for her...she could of taught Man Ray a thing or two... grin

There is also very good DVD on her life... Lee Miller: Through the Mirror...also by Anthony Penrose...I just watched it the other day...available through Netflix in the States...

That link has changed. The new link is here: Dead Link Removed

Notice the change from 1.html to 2.html Not sure if it will change to 3.html tomorrow!

Alternatively, the list for the week is here: Dead Link Removed

Ross, and anyone else in Australia.

ABC1 is showing the Lee Miller biography, "Through the Mirror" on Sunday the 26th of July at 2305hrs.

Nancy, I have you to thank for this, I was scrolling through a weekly television guide and saw, "Through the Mirror" and remembered I had read it somewhere before.

I chased it up and found it was this biography.

I only look at a guide once a week and decide which, if anything, I'll watch, so this was a bit of luck.

I'll tape it and watch it next week.

The bloody ABC Arts ghetto hours (on radio includes also any new music on composed before 1950).

I believe that they ran it a while ago on a Sunday afternoon, I'm sure that I saw it.

I wish that I could be as alert at nearly midnight as I once was.

Hmm, Mark Scott is speaking at a Friends of the ABC forum up the hill at Wentworth Falls on Sunday. Might be another one to tackle him on.

There was a great retrospective of her work at the V&A in London about 18 months ago

She did some fabulous work

It's a terrific documentary, told me a lot about the person and explained a lot about her progression as a person and artist. I guess she had a huge advantage in that she was an expert both in front AND behind the camera.

I've just finished watching the tape I made, seems she was an interesting person, to put it mildly.

Well worth the effort to view, with a video tape recorder as you can go over and listen again to some of the questions the person narrating asks, he is hard to understand sometimes.

She came across as quite a self centred person, which is probably why she did the reasonably extensive travels, amongst other things.

Not all, but a fair few people I personally know who are successful in artistic endeavours, are like this. Interestingly, much the same can be said about successful business people.
