Lee Filter Holder issue.

I got my Lee kit today and there's no way this rubber band thingy is staying put on any of my lenses. Tried it on my largest and smallest diameter lenses and no way...

There needs to be more friction. The rubber just slips right off. Before I start improvising a solution, have others run into this issue and solved it?

I find that if I ring the outer edge of the front element's housing with 3M Foam Medical Tape that the rubber band grips just fine, the tape comes off on demand, leaving no residue. The downside is that my lens caps won't fit over the tape.

Sorry I can't be more helpful but I could not find a way to make this holder work, I am well used to adapting and modifying photographic equipment but this one had me beat so I returned it for a refund.
I do wish you luck in finding a solution or an alternative.

I don't have the holder so not exactly sure how it's made, but can't you put them on crosswise instead of straight? So the force is acting more towards the center of the lens instead of out towards the edge.

Could you post a picture of what you are describing? I'm not sure what you are asking. I've got a Lee Filter set and love it. I find the quality of the holders to be outstanding (assuming you have the metal rings).

No metal rings and I sent them back today. The whole design of the gel snap holder leaves me scratching my head. It simply is unsuitable for large format lenses in my opinion.

I'm gonna try Cokin P Series with the universal ring adapter next.

I see. I wasn't aware that Lee even had gel filters. It is surprising that these holders would be so bad, given how good their other holders/filters are. Thanks for clarifying this.

I've used the Lee system for a few years now and it is great. The gel snap with the rubber band goes over the lens. I've used it on several of my large brass lenses. It dosen't work on my very small diameter lenses. Sorry to hear you had a problem.

It would work fine on a barrell lens with a continuous diameter...not so well on lenses that taper immediately back from the front element.

I have one - it works perfectly - I've used it on lenses from 52mm to 77mm in diameter without the slightest problems. You simply stretch out the elastic with forefingers on both hands, slide the holder over the end of the lens barrel and let it the elastic go so that it snaps in against the barrel of the lens when it is positioned. About as difficult as opening a can of beer....

Gee, I never tried that. But then, I open beer with a rusty railroad spike and a tennis racket.

The rim on my 150mm Symmar S is only about a 1/4" before it tapers sharply back. On my 210 Componon S, the band had to be stretched to an extreme just to fit around it. On my 90 Super Angulon, it would fit well but the lip of the lens was too slick and the band wanted to ride of of it and slide down the taper. On my 65 Super Angulon it was too loose on its equally slick rim.

I'm happy it works for you and I appreciate your concern for my motor skills.

Mine has worked fine for quite a few years. The only lens I have which is really too small for it is my little 150mm Fuji f/6.3. In that case, I put the rubber bands around the outside of the shutter instead of over the lens. For my larger lens, it works great and I'm very happy with it.
