Dead Link Removed

My brother in law sent me this link. Interesting piece. Would love to see his work without the intermediary of electronics (though I'd probably not have heard of him without that magic). Love his last line - "If what you're doing isn't obsolete, then it's not photography."

He is only one of four men

Overstated, but there are not many printing full color carbon transfers, especially from in-camera separations. It is insanely difficult.

I've attempted single colour (black) carbon - got a few decent prints and many many frilly, peeling wrecks. I can appreciate how tough it must be to do it in registered layers.
I saw a presentation by Tod Gangler of his colour carbon work. Stunning. He'd learned from a printer in France, if I remember correctly.
How many colour carbon printers do you know of?

The biggest challenge is not registration, it's finding a working set of pigments and achieving a color-balanced workflow.

I've done 3 and 4 colour gum prints, with digi negs, so I know registration is just about using a good system. I had such a hard time getting my carbons to stick, that I can't imagine layering them. The whole pigment issue for getting a good colour balance is another level of difficulty. If you've tried colour carbon printing, my hat's off to you!

It's a lot easier once you've mastered monochrome transfers using a single tissue.:D

I have known John for over 45 years and I talk with him regularly and recently scanned his transparencies for artist grant proposals - his prints are exceptional. He was my rigging slinger on a highlead logging site, and he is one of the reasons I got into photography.
I have witnessed John's journey into Carbon since 1994 , just before he rigged a small bus with Jobo and thousands of sheets of Agfa 8 x10 trans and chemicals which are common friend Bruce Chalmers helped secure, which he processed on the road in Mexico where most of his early Carbon transfer work started.

Sandy King by the way has made beautiful colour carbon prints- He is a ( soft ) Canadian as he has been up here many times and exhibits a great Canadian personality.
