Hi,

This is my first post to this forum, which I just joined today. I am very glad to find a place where I belong!

I have been scanning negatives using Epson's software for a while and recently came to know about Lasersoft's different software packages supporting Epson scanners. I find the Epson software lacking and have read some very good reviews of Lasersoft AI. I would be interested in knowing some members opinions of the Lasersoft product line and which software might be best for me.

I have been shooting Kodak HIE-135 infrared film, but that has been discontinued. Scanning gives a much greater latitude for this film. I have negatives that would be difficult to print in the darkroom that are able to yield a decent print scanned and printed digitally with little tweaking. I try my best to shoot to print with as little post work as possible, so am not certain I need all of the whistles and bells of the top of Lasersoft's line, AI Pro (I think).

Any advice from forum members is very much appreciated.

Sincerely,
James C. Williams

I have used both the Epson software and Silverfast Ai with several Epson scanners, including the current 4990. The Epson software is more than adequate but I prefer Silverfast as it has profiles for most film types and the histogram and curves adjustments are a bit more sophisticated.

That said, there is some type of conflict with my present computer and system (24" Intel Core 2 Duo iMac, Mac OS 104.11 and Silverfast which I have not been able to solve, in spite of a fair amount of trouble shooting.

Hi Sandy,

Thanks for your reply. I am trying the demo, which works as fully functional, but puts a watermark in the center of the image.

My biggest complaint with the Epson software is the small window in which I must work on screen. Admittedly, a larger monitor would help, but when the program is utilizing only about 40% of the available screen for working with the scan, my complaint seems valid.

I wish I could assist you with your problem, but I'm not a Mac user -- yet...

Any other pros/cons regarding which of lasersoft's programs would suit me best are very much appreciated.

Just go to http://www.hamrick.com and download a VueScan demo. No hassle, just fun to work with. I've sold my Silverfast licence months ago and never regretted it.

Wow! I had the old version of that in my downloads folder. I tried it and found it was kind of the AOL version of what I already had. I need something much less dumbed-down!

Thanks for the *suggestion* and good luck with selling:rolleyes: that software!
