i have a student who will be visiting in las vegas next month. he is looking for suggestions on photo ops outside the city as he has that covered. any ideas?

Valley of Fire;

Red Rock Canyon

Lake Meade Recreation area

Mt. Charleston

Downtown back alleys

Hoover Dam area

Black Canyon (raft or canoe) (Colorado River)

Valley Of Fire is gaw-jus! Go early morning or late afternoon on a sunny day to get the light at an angle.

Death Valley is not too bad a drive. I might recommend Zabriskie Point and/or Dante's View around sunrise.

My fave subject in Las Vegas is still night shots (atypical, non-postcard like) of the Strip and downtown.
