Las Vegas Suggestions

I am in the planning stages for a trip to Las Vegas during the week of April 9-13 of this year. I don't gamble and have absolutely no interest in the night life. I am going to accompany someone for the week.

Other than the Hoover Dam, are there any other photo spots near Las Vegas? I was thinking about a Grand Canyon tour for a day by helicopter. Any suggestions?
 
Check these out on the internet.....

Red Rock Canyon ( a short drive from the strip)

Valley of Fire---about an hour out

Mt. Charleston-about an hour and a 20 or greater degree drop in temp

West Rim of the Grand Canyon--2 hours and 20 mins or so one way...

Death Valley - about 2.5 hours

Zion National park--3 hours

Also lots of good mountain biking....bikes can be rented or you can take a guided tour (Escape the City Streets is the company-they are on Charleston)

Take the Lake Mead drive around the west shore of the Lake

all of these are excellent photo destinations as well as hiking....there is also rock climbing in Red Rock Canyon

There is an Ansel Adams display at the Belagio Hotel in their Fine Arts Gallery. Well worth the $15 admission price.

Yes and agreed well worth the ticket.....it will be up until May 6. You can find it on line google ansel adams in america las vegas

Are they actual, authentic Ansel Adams prints? If so, it would be great to see this exhibit!
 
Actual prints..and personal items and letters etc...also his camera is on display for you to view and peer through the ground glass, if that inspires you...
 
The nice thing about Red Rock is if you buy a pass in the morning its good for the whole day.
 
All good suggestions. The Mt. Charleston area is great on a hot day in the summer. Very nice hiking up there. Red Rock is very close to town, and there's lots of neat stuff to shoot there--

 
Valley of Fire, the strip at night, Street shooting on Freemont street.
 

Don't neglect LV itself. Like you, I don't gamble (I reckon that being a freelance is gamble enough), nor do I care for night life apart from restaurants. But the lights really can be quite fun. Some of my favourites, I shot with an 800m 'solid cat' (on 35mm, of course), 'stacking' the lights to present a sort of wall of light. Choosing the right momemt, with the ones you want on, on, and the ones you want off, off, can be interesting.

Actually, I prefer Las Vegas New Mexico to Las Vegas Nevada, Try it sometime...

I haven't been there myself, but on a similar thread someone mentioned some kind of a "Neon Museum" where they have preserved the flashy signage from casinos that were torn down for bigger and better casinos.

As I recall, the admission price was rather high - but then, it is Vegas.
 
Yes and there also is signage on 3rd street down town set up as ground level sculpture etc. The museum requires a permit to photograph.
 
I visit Las Vegas frequently, both for business and pleasure, and I'll almost always go through a few rolls on each trip.

My favorite subject in Las Vegas is the Las Vegas Strip at night. I also have a thing for the closed, abandoned, soon to be demolished, etc. casinos and other things.

For out of town, I second the recommendations for Valley Of Fire and Death Valley.

Some of these are semi-serious, some are just snapshot quality, some sub-snapshot quality.

Oh, I would also second the recommendation of the Ansel Adams exhibit at the Bellagio.
