I *believe* they printed out a digital negative of the girl portrait. It was printed out onto multiple sections of transparency that were then taped together. They also treated a large piece of fabric (>24 m^2) to make a cyanotype contact print. Out in the town square they quickly laid out the fabric and overlaid the negative in the bright sun. Once exposed sufficiently they quickly rolled up the fabric and developed it.
Thank you, wyofilm. I don't think I missed the bit about making of the digital negatives and joining them. I'd have thought that it would have been worthwhile to have described the process. It was great form but little substance as the saying goes
