Large Format Selfies

I like it. Now to figure out how to how to ride a bicycle backwards. Just because. Add this to your list of things you never thought about because you have a brain. I wonder if he applied for a patent on it? Otherwise, Leica will come out with one that is special order, backlogged for two years, and made of hand polished pure titanium w/ a Luigi carry strap. They might even try to get Oscar regenerated from the grave somehow so that he could personally sign them.

The product design sketches are very good, but should have been drawn on a cocktail napkin for that classic look.

I like it! Dunno, maybe at my advanced age I would need a counterweight on the opposite end to be able to support my B&J out there! (I do have some serious bamboo growing in the yard should I decide to try this.)

I, for one, love LF selfies and make them often. Look how much fun me and Cricket are having in this one, for example:

I may be wrong, but I think one of the defining characteristics of a "proper" selfie is the downlooking angle from above.

During our last trip to Venice, my wife and I were amazed and appalled at the number of tourists with selfie-sticks and the (even more alarming) number of gizmo-salesmen hawking selfie-sticks at every piazza, campo, ponte and trattoria...

So, in my typical flippant way, I clowned around a bit in front of a bunch of Asian tourists who had just completed a frenzy of selfies. My wife, quick on the draw with her non-analog image-capturing device (we don't call it a camera... ) snapped this of me...

In Paris they were also walking around looking at their screens rather then seeing with their own eyes. I guess having a digital image to show their friends is more important than actually being there and seeing it.

None whatsoever. Heck, there were movie crews and other photographers there with lots bigger tripods than mine I even got to meet DJ, a forum member here when I spotted a much larger view camera than my 4x5 set up by a canal. We had a nice talk.

I've been working Venice once or twice a year for a couple of decades now and have never had a real problem with anyone. It does pay to set up out of traffic and not block pedestrian traffic, visit in the off-season, be prepared to move your camera for tradesmen with carts, etc. FWIW, the security at Marco Polo Airport seem to know their way around LF equipment and film better than most other airports I've flown through.

As a side note: the many selfie-snapping tourists also seemed interested in the big camera. I was photographed a lot when I had the camera set up and a few even took an (unsolicited) selfie with my camera... oh well.

Still comes up in an Internet search so I must still be famous, right.

I was thinking though, maybe some kind of stand for the camera so he wouldn't have to hold it on that long pole. Nah, that would never work.
