Large Format Journal, Winter Issue

The winter issue of the Large Format Journal is now available for download. I paid for a subscription, and within a matter of a few minutes I was able to enjoy this issue - great service. The articles & portfolios include Tilman Crane on ULF cameras, Kim Weston on nudes (surprise ;-), Ray Heaton on Printing Out Paper, and much more. Highly recommended!!

Doug, thanks for the heads up. I donm't have a subscription for this one as yet but probably will in the near future. Anyway there is some outstanding (as always) work from apug's own Baxter Bradford in this issue. Well done, Baxter.

Thanks for this post! I was unaware of this publication and 2 years for $15!
Also noted you can get complete back issues for $2.50....all published as downloads. What a great way to distribute and sell special interest publications! BTW I am subscribing to this publication.

Didn't realize until I got farther in that there is a second apug member rrankin. Another outstanding body of work there. Well done,Richard.

I purchased the first edition and wasn't that impressed with the reproductions, far from the quality that Lens Work Extended provides. Say all that though I suppose I'll purchase the second issue just to give them support and incentive to continue. Perhaps the quality will improve.

Thanks ggriffi! Even if I didn't have some photos in there, I'd hope everyone buys a copy. They are doing a great job, and, when I'm paying $4-5 a sheet for film, I have to consider the LFJ a true Large Format bargain at only $2.50. Cheers, Richard

I just subscribed and found out it's not for poor folks like me with dial-up connections. I downloaded for one and a half hours and finally got an error message. Oh well, fifteen bucks down the drain. live and learn.

Note**** I have now received the password*****, so I guess they are legit. I just had a heck of time during November. So, FWIW, it all seems to be working now.****

I sent these jokers a paypal payment for issue 1. I never received it. I wrote at least three emails requesting the password. Never received a reply. Proceed at your own risk.

My experience this morning was the same as Clay's....no password...I am thinking my computer automatically sent my email address and it is not the one I am presently using...have sent message via my other e mail address...will see if that is the problem and report back...if so, the new address will have to be manually entered on their end so that could possibly not be until later tonight or tomorrow...

I've now purchased both the Autumn and Winter editions of this fine online publication, and had no problem either time. Paid with PayPal, received receipt from PayPal at 1:26 PM, received message from Ray with download password at 1:42, 16 minutes later.

Messages will be sent to the email address you use for PayPal.

Be aware that the Winter issue is a 20MB download (Autumn was only 7MB), but in my experience, the first page should appear in Acrobat Reader while the rest downloads in the background.

Thank god for cable; I'd shoot myself before I'd go back to dial-up.

my pay pal e mail is the one that is down now..local provider...i received the download almost immediately...just didn't know my password....I am sure that is the hold up....maybe this would be a more cost effective way to distribute Emulsion? just a thought..

(one note....my e mail thought the email from Large Format was junk mail and tossed it in the Bulk mail!!!)

Thank god for dialup-if I didnt have dialup that would mean I lived in a populated area where cable is available instead of miles past the end of the line.

WM Blunt, try right clicking it and save to your hard drive before you go to bed. I have successfully done 50 Meg downloads this way. Sometimes it takes more than one try, but it usually works fine.

I bought the first issue and had no problems. Today I bought the 2 year subscription. I think they should be supported as there are so few publications that benefit large format photography. Even if you just buy the single issues, $2.50 is a bargan.

I really have to thank you again for this tip...having subscribed and viewed this publication for several evenings now, I have to say it could become the wave of the future for special and niche market publications....quite efficient and I did not have to pay the overseas subscription mailing charges.....

An added bonus of this online publication that I quickly came to really appreciate, is the ability to ZOOM IN. what a joy for these feeble eyes....I could kick back in my favorite chair, scoot back and view easily.

Also the ability to, with the click of a key stroke, to advance to any referred page is nice....again, thanks again, I certainly hope the publishers and all involved in this project can keep it going.....I recommend!
