The land looks awfully flat, I like land with wrinkles.

Here's something with a darker mood. (I've included a few wrinkles).

NV 051. A lonely road and a rain squall near Pioche, Nevada.

Fantastic image! As a Prairie girl myself, I love these flat landscapes and big skies - it sure reminds me of home. We definitely don’t have landscapes like these in Japan!

Hey there mooseontheloose, if you see a tall white-bearded santa claus-looking sort of guy wandering around Kyoto with a Veriwide and/or Ciro-flex (TLR) over the next couple weeks, it might be me. At 6'3", I might stick out some!

I have 8x10 negatives from times through eastern Washington...acres of sky out there. But I have not printed them. It seems few of my images have any sky in them and fewer where the sky dominates. I treat it more like a backdrop at times like these two platinum prints (2.25" square and the other 8x10).

On the Oregon Trail... mile # 575, only 1345 miles to Oregon. Chimney rock marked the end of the prairie; the mountains of Western America lay ahead...
#NHPS 131. A negative scan. Camera: 617 Fotoman modified to 615 film format, lens: 150mm Fujinon, YG filter, film: Ilford FP4

Spring Valley, Utah.

About halfway on a 76 mile stretch of empty road (Utah #21), we find Spring Valley.
Here it is... all of it.
If you were planning on stopping for a hamburger and a beer... sorry.

# UTGE 072. Negative scan. Camera: Fotoman 617, converted to 615 format. 80mm S.Symmar XL. O2 filter, Ilford FP4 film

Yep, Konica IR film is unique and wonderfully expressive without "shouting" and "screaming" like many IR images.

Ardmore, County Waterford, Ireland. 12th. Century round tower, cathedral ruins & graveyard.
Round towers are symbolic of Irish history.
The towers were probably built between the 9th and 12th centuries.
# IRGE 003. A negative scan. Mamiya M7 camera, 65mm lens, Konica K750 infrared film.

Landscape is called landscape for a reason and not skyscape. Lots of great landscape images that feature little sky. For example AA Halfdome picture which features a small amount of featureless night sky except for a tiny moon and no horizon.. Lots of other examples for Adams. It's always good to avoid generalizing. It is a trap for the unwary.

The aesthetics of the word landscape is nicely discussed here...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landscape
Here's an example of a narrowly cropped scene printed in what is commonly referred to as "landscape format" (1:2.5 ratio).

. . Sword Ferns. Oregon by Reinhold S., on Flickr

However, the scene is too confined to satisfy the expectation of a broad Landscape vista.
Confusing format with topic may be confusing...

Thankee, kind sir...

For our audience's consideration, here's a 30/70 landscape/skyscape...

. . Mt Adams, Washington by Reinhold S., on Flickr

The only problem is that it's not in Landscape format (I get sooo confused...).

Since I expressed some confusion about landscape as a topic -vs- landscape as a format, I hereby submit a true landscape (topic) in a true landscape (format) presentation...

Late afternoon... my 8x20" Canham was folded up and we were about to leave.
This band of clouds suddenly materialized.
After a mad scramble to set everything up, I snapped two negatives.
A few moments later the clouds took over and the scene collapsed.

Still qualifies as a landscape? It's got a horizon and plenty of sky. Not so much land...
