Landscape locations - Long Island, NY??

Looking for suggestions for landscape locations - without people or signs of urban life on Long Island, NY.

Where on LI are you interested in going - Nassau, Suffolk, or Queens/Brooklyn?

Montauk..the harbor, the lighthouse (too urban ?) and the dunes they used for Rudolph Valentino's "The Sheik".

I was thinking more of Nassau/Suffolk than NYC - Lighthouses would be fine, I'm not looking for street scenes - I would rather be pointed towards more natural locations.

Having lived there for 30 years, for me, Long Island is about it's marvelous coastlines. The North Shore... from Oyster Bay out to Port Jefferson and beyond, the coast consists of rolling hillsides with many small harbors... just follow route 25A, and turn left from time to time. Planting Fields Arboretum (http://www.plantingfields.org) in Oyster Bay, is a particularly beautiful photographic location. The South Shore... all of the marshes and reed lands along the Great South Bay, and of course Fire Island. The south shore also has numerous ponds, lakes and streams that ultimately flow into the Great South Bay... follow route 27A, and you will cross over many of these. Lastly don't neglect the many state parks... (http://www.nysparks.state.ny.us/regions/long_island.asp) most of which were established many decades ago, preserving Long Islands unique environment. These can be fertile locations for landscape work.

And because of those coastlines, it's a good place to shoot those panoramic cameras like the ones made by Fotoman.

If you can get out there now - any of the beaches will be void of people (perhaps except for the occasional "lonely walkers" - who are studies themselves).

I'd particularly recommend going to either Sunken Meadow, Wildwood or Hither Hills State Parks.

Also, it's "greening up" time at the North Fork wineries. You'll need to ask for permission I presume - but if you get it - you'll likely find some nice shots of the vineyard rows on undulating hillsides just showing early growth.

Closer in - you might try West End Beach at Jones Beach - or the marshlands b/w there and Long Beach. The latter may involve some hiking - or better yet - if you can get your hands on a boat....

Caumsett State Park is a former estate with many gorgeous vistas.
It's located in Lloyd Neck, near the wonderful town of Huntington.
